A review on factors affecting chitosan nanoparticles formation

Abstract Chitosan has been widely used as an excipient in the pharmaceutical industries, due to its biodegradable, biocompatible, low toxicity, and mucoadhesive properties. nanoparticles have extensively investigated for delivery of drugs, herbal products, proteins or peptides genes. The particle size chitosan important effect on their properties application. Smaller can entrap higher concentration therapeutic agents, improve drug stability bioavailability, provide sustained delivery. Although diverse efforts made obtain potential applications, optimization fabricating conditions comprehensive resultant is still ongoing study subject. In this review, we will describe several factors that affect nanoparticle formation specifically ionic gelation method, such characteristic, i.e. degree deacetylation, molecular weight, ratio chitosan-crosslinker, type crosslinker, mixing procedure, condition. We also give overview characterization process nanoparticles.
